How do I sign up for a Marathon?

Do you want to run a marathon? Well, first you have to sign up. Today we are going to tell you what you need to know before signing up and how to go about your registration for the ultimate challenge – a marathon. 

Make Sure You Have Time To Prepare!

Running 42,2 km is not something you do every day. So before you sign up to take on the challenge, make sure you will have enough time to prepare for it. Allow yourself at least 6-12 weeks of training 4-8 hours a week to really get your body in shape to cross the finish line. We recommend joining a local running club like the Randburg Harriers to prepare together with other motivated runners. 

Pick the Right Location and Date!

Do you want to run on a flat surface? Do you want to run in optimal temperatures? Well, before you sign up for your first marathon, do your research! Look at the dates and locations of different marathons and check out the climate statistics for that time of the year. Also, check the route and see if it matches your expectations.

Sign Up Early!

Its always better to sign up as early as possible. It will save you money and give you more time to prepare properly. Often marathons are booked out very fast and they may even put you on a waitlist if you sign up late. Check the website of your desired marathon, and look for that registration opening date. Mark it in your calendar and don’t forget to sign up.
