Joburg’s Toughest 21km is Calling Your Name!

If you are planning on joining us on Sunday 17 February for the 2019 edition of the Pirates 21km, Joburg’s Toughest Half Marathon, take note that entries are flying in. While the official closing date is 8 February, the entry cap of 6000 is likely to be reached before then, so get your entry in now!

This race is positioned on the calendar as the perfect tester for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Ultra and the Comrades Marathon, because the tough climbing will give you an indication of how your training is progressing. In other words, you’ll know whether your legs are getting ready for the big hills of the ultras, or if you need to up your training game.

Jackie Gibson Now Chip-timed! Entries for JointEze Irene Ultra are flying!
Johannesburg Harriers AC is proud to present the 74th Jackie Gibson Marathonand 7th Allan Ferguson Half Marathon, together with a 10km run on Sunday 31 March. The first 1000 online entrants in the 42km and 21km will receive a free T-shirt, and this year our race will be timed using ChampionChip technology, with mat-to-mat timing for both the 21km and 42km events. Also, your marathon time will automatically be uploaded as a Comrades qualifier. On Sunday 7 April, the fourth JointEze Irene Ultra powered by Modern Athlete will once again hit the streets of Irene and Centurion! This race is #THEqualifier for the Comrades thanks to its 48km distance: Your time will count for the 48-50km qualifying category, thus giving you a 2km advantage! Also, ChampionChip will be doing mat-to-mat timing, so no lost time at the start, and your time will automatically be submitted to Comrades.

Old Favourites Remain the Best Choice!

Many runners at this time of year are looking for an ideal marathon qualifier for the upcoming ultra-marathons, and the Edenvale Marathon is one of the best! Celebrating its 25th edition in 2019, the race takes place at 6am on Sunday 10 March, and provides Two Oceans and Comrades hopefuls alike with the perfect opportunity to get in those qualifying times on a route that prepares you for the big ultra’s. But entries are flying out the door for this ever-popular event, so click the button below and enter now!

A Race for Everyone!

If the idea of a marathon is a bit far for your legs, the event also offers half marathon, 10km as well as 5km distances, so you have options, but if you are looking to punch that qualifier card, another reason to do the Edenvale Marathon is mat-to-mat timing, meaning your time only starts when you cross those start mats! Also, your mat-to-mat time is automatically sent in to the Comrades Marathon Association database as a qualifier, so the only thing you need to do is make sure that your ChampionChip is snug as a bug on your shoe!

The race finishes at the Edenvale High School grounds in Linksfield Avenue, Edenvale, with the start being just outside the school. It is easily accesible with plenty of parking, and the event offers a fun day from start to finish for the whole family.

All proceeds of the 5km fun run will be donated to the Kidneybeanz Trust, a non-profit organisation that supports children with life-threatening kidney disease. The organisation works with the whole family, providing much-needed financial and emotional support.

Entries for all distances officially close on 28 February 2019, or earlier if our entry-cap is reached, so enter today to avoid missing out!
